On November 1st my mom and I went to the 2015 New Test Clinic With Olympian Hilda Gurney at the Los Angeles Equestrian Center. The LA Chapter of CDS hosted the clinic and we were able to receive copies of the new dressage tests before they were even released to the public. I have seen Hilda at a few shows this year and have heard how amazing she is, but this was my first chance to see her in person. Wow, I am so thankful that I was able to attend this event! She really is AMAZING! Under Hilda’s direction riders performed the new movements of each test and then rode through every test while Hilda provided her feedback. The really nice thing about Hilda’s feedback is that because she is a judge and competitor herself, it was clear enough that everything made complete sense to me in a way that I can use it in my riding with Tigger. We were able to stay for the demonstrations of Intro Test A through Second Level Test 3 and I feel like we got lots of good information and tips from Hilda. All of the new intro and training level tests are slightly different except for training level test 3 which seems to be exactly the same. Nadja, Alexa (not me), and Amy each rode one intro test and they all had a little trouble with various things but overall they had really good rides and I am sure they learned a lot and had fun. Bryce, Kirstin, and Priscilla each rode one training level test and they all had amazing rides and I think that the tips and tricks that Hilda gave them were very useful and helpful. After that, we had a quick break and then we saw the next set of tests. Bryce, Jay, and Aimee each had excellent rides and they each rode one of the first level tests, which are harder and different than they were last year. Since I am planning to move up to first level this year I tried to pay closer attention to these tests. Sharon rode second level test 1 and 2 while LJ rode second level test 3 and they both had outstanding rides and the new second level tests appear to be more difficult than the previous ones. After that was the lunch break, which was when my mom and I left so we missed the third and fourth level test demonstrations. I really enjoyed this clinic and I think that Hilda did a great job training, explaining, and commenting. Everyone who rode in this clinic volunteered to do it. I think they all deserve a round of applause because without them and Hilda this would not have happened.
