The entire summer has gone by without an updated blog post and there’s lots to catch up on. Magnes and I are very fortunate to continue to have the opportunity to further our training with Shayna Simon at Arroyo Del Mar, the same place where Olympian Steffen Peters trains. We have been focusing mostly on Magnes’ training this year but did show twice this summer as he really needs the experience and show miles. Our first show together was only Magnes’ second show ever and we showed training level test 1, where we received a 65.217% giving us first place. In our second show, we rode training level test 3. This was Magnes’ first show at the Los Angeles Equestrian Center and our classes were scheduled inside the Equidome. The warm up was one of our best rides ever but during the test Magnes was very spooky. The Equidome is a covered stadium-like arena that is somewhat underground and whenever people walked in the stands the metal really echoed inside the arena. Magnes didn’t like that very much and his nervousness and insecurity made him very stiff in his neck and throughout his body making him hard to ride. Even though the test didn’t go great, I was very happy about how he was prior to entering the show ring and I think that the show was a good and much needed experience for him. We will continue to take him places this fall just so that he can learn more that this is his job now and he need not be so scared.
Here’s a little video clip that my mom posted of some of our warm-up in the Equidome:
Stay tuned for a very exciting announcement in my next post!
